Juice Brothers
On a recent trip to London, we were amazed at the number of juice bars and stores around the city. It's a hype at the moment and growing at an incredible rate.
Amsterdam has not been left behind. We discovered Juice Brothers, which opened about a month and a half ago. Situated on the van Woustraat in the Pijp district, they're all about vegan, organic, raw and cold-pressed.
Cold-pressed juices are said to be better because fruits and vegetables are shredded and hydraulically pressed, with minimal generation of heat and thus minimum oxidation. Heat kills many of the vitamins, minerals and live enzymes you think you’re getting when consuming other “healthy” juices. The cold-press method allows enzymes to stay alive, resulting in juice with maximum nutrients.
Besides offering juices made up of interesting and delicious combinations, they also offer smoothies to order, breakfasts, salads and raw food.
It's fresh, clean and minimalist interior works well, allowing their juices and smoothies to take centre stage.
We're sure that there will be more of their stores popping up soon.
United Pancakes
United Pancakes brings the classic and much loved Dutch pancake into the 21st century. They've been open for 3 months and are redefining the way we eat pancakes. They are making pancakes accessible to everyone.
United Pancakes was born out of the fact that there were no artisan pancake restaurants. They noticed a gap in the market and so this brand was born.
All their products are organic and everything is homemade. Flour comes from their own mill and is available to purchase in the their little shop together with homemade apple and pear syrups, old fashioned Dutch candy and their own branded aprons, t-shirts a baby ware.
The restaurant has a great intimate atmosphere with rough bare brick walls and lots of old wood. It's also an ideal place for kids and the staff are friendly and very attentive.
A new addition are pancakes to go, which is great if you need your pancake fix but don't have the time. It's cooked fresh to order then filled with the topping/flavouring of your choice to enjoyed on the go. We took ours to go as we didn't have much time and it was without doubt one of the most delicious pancakes we've had in a while. We will be back!

Di Zabbia Limoncello and Orangecello
Brandon Zabbia, one of the co-owners of Cook'inn Catering, became interested in developing a limoncello after discovering an old family recipe of the Italian lemon liquor. After experimenting with different ingredients, Di Zabbia limoncello was born; a 100% organic limoncello; tangy and refreshing with a perfect balance of flavours between sweetness and acidity.
Traditionally it served as an after dinner drink (if served cold), as it is said to be an excellent digestive and soothes the stomach. But the liquor can also be served at other moments of the day, particularly as a cocktail. In addition to that, the liquor is a wonderful ingredient in cooking and baking. The chefs of Amsterdam Flavours will use Di Zabbia products to create exciting recipes.
Di Zabbia comes in two flavours; the more traditional limoncello with the lemon as key ingredient and Orangecello; where blood orange rind is used.
Curious to taste this delicious Di Zabbia? Like & share the Amsterdam Flavours facebookpage and maybe you will be the lucky winner of two bottles of Di Zabbia. THE WINNER IS: Irene de Jager. Congrats and enjoy!

Di Zabbia Limoncello and Orangecello are also available at Bilder & de Clercq.

Restaurant As
As loves pure cooking
Restaurant As is situated in the former St Nicolaas Chapel (designed by architect Lau Peters in 1962) on the edge of the Beatrixpark in Amsterdam. As represents pure cooking. Demonstrating in a respectful manner, that one organism dies to keep another alive. We serve an appealing range of dishes, largely shaped by nature. Seasonal and climatic changes determine what’s on the menu.
Suppliers
Our taste-buds are numbed under the influence of food-multinationals. Everything contains sugar, everything tastes similar. Restaurant As works with authentic, full-flavored ingredients supplied by local retailers who share our thoughts on taste, quality and sustainability.
Our kitchen
Our kitchen is directly connected to the outdoors, and so is our cooking. The weather determines our culinary course of action. Indian summer? Samba. Brass monkey weather? Braising. We cook on the open fire in our wood oven, and prepare the dishes on the stone workbench in plain view. We apply time-honored cooking methods like curing, smoking and pickling. Our freshly baked sourdough-bread completes the scene.
