De Foodhallen

De Foodhallen, Amsterdam's brand new and first permanent indoor market, is open. With it's bustling and vibey atmosphere, this is definitely the place to be seen.

Housed in an old tram depot in Amsterdam West, the Hallen and Foodhallen have been stunningly renovated and preserved.

We visited on a Saturday morning and had the privilege of first visiting the Local Goods Market. We tasted and we talked. We love the passion and enthusiasm these small local producers have for their products and we discovered some really fantastic new things. We'll be giving the ones really liked more attention in coming columns.

De Foodhallen itself is a melting pot of deliciousness; a culinary journey round the world. There is something on offer for everyone - hotdogs, hamburgers, Vietnamese, Turkish, Spanish and of course, home-grown Dutch.

The idea is a simple one. Choose what you want to eat from one of the many Artisan kitchens, grab a drink and a table in the middle of the hall and enjoy. We didn't get a chance to taste everything, so we will be going back to try some more and write about them in more detail.

We do hope, however, that they add a permanent market like one sees in Southern Europe selling vegetables, meats. etc. That would really be the icing on the cake.

Brandt & Levie sausages

Jiri, Geert and Samuel are the young master sausage makers that make up Brandt & Levie.

The three friends, with a passion for good food, travelled to Italy to learn how to make sausages. They brought their expertise back and are now sharing their knowledge and their delicious sausages with others here in Holland.

They create incredible fresh and dried sausages, available in many good stores and restaurants across Amsterdam.

Their dried sausages and ham make the perfect charcuterie platters to serve with drinks or at the beginning of a meal.

We have to warn you though - their sausages, both fresh and dried and coppa are dangerously delicious and should be supplied with an addiction warning. They are that good! But I'm sure many of you know that already.

Brandt & Levie sausages are also available at Bilder & De Clercq

Di Zabbia Limoncello and Orangecello

Brandon Zabbia, one of the co-owners of Cook'inn Catering, became interested in developing a limoncello after discovering an old family recipe of the Italian lemon liquor. After experimenting with different ingredients, Di Zabbia limoncello was born; a 100% organic limoncello; tangy and refreshing with a perfect balance of flavours between sweetness and acidity.

Traditionally it served as an after dinner drink (if served cold), as it is said to be an excellent digestive and soothes the stomach. But the liquor can also be served at other moments of the day, particularly as a cocktail. In addition to that, the liquor is a wonderful ingredient in cooking and baking. The chefs of Amsterdam Flavours will use Di Zabbia products to create exciting recipes.

Di Zabbia comes in two flavours; the more traditional limoncello with the lemon as key ingredient and Orangecello; where blood orange rind is used.

Curious to taste this delicious Di Zabbia? Like & share the Amsterdam Flavours facebookpage and maybe you will be the lucky winner of two bottles of Di Zabbia. THE WINNER IS: Irene de Jager. Congrats and enjoy!
