Bar Fisk
Situated in a small street in Amsterdam's Pijp district, you'll find Bar Fisk. From the outside an unassuming place. Until you step inside and are transported to a busy, vibrant Tel Aviv restaurant.
That vibrancy can be found back in the delicious food served. It's packed with gutsy flavours. The idea is to order dishes to share. We had tiger shrimp with spicy aubergine and mango sauce, slow cooked and smoked beef brisket and lastly artichoke ravioli with creamy celeriac purée.
Desserts too were a treat - semolina cake drenched in a spiced syrup and a rich and dense chocolate and salted caramel cake served with frozen olive oil. Instead of drinking wine off their well-chosen list, we opted for a gin and tonic. Besides different g&t combinations they also serve a variety of cocktails and other drinks to cater for all tastes.
This restaurant is a great find and we will most definitely be regular visitors.
Juice Brothers
On a recent trip to London, we were amazed at the number of juice bars and stores around the city. It's a hype at the moment and growing at an incredible rate.
Amsterdam has not been left behind. We discovered Juice Brothers, which opened about a month and a half ago. Situated on the van Woustraat in the Pijp district, they're all about vegan, organic, raw and cold-pressed.
Cold-pressed juices are said to be better because fruits and vegetables are shredded and hydraulically pressed, with minimal generation of heat and thus minimum oxidation. Heat kills many of the vitamins, minerals and live enzymes you think you’re getting when consuming other “healthy” juices. The cold-press method allows enzymes to stay alive, resulting in juice with maximum nutrients.
Besides offering juices made up of interesting and delicious combinations, they also offer smoothies to order, breakfasts, salads and raw food.
It's fresh, clean and minimalist interior works well, allowing their juices and smoothies to take centre stage.
We're sure that there will be more of their stores popping up soon.
Le Salonard
Le Salonard is a culinary paradise in De Pijp. Housing a selection of wines, cheeses, pastries, charcuterie and other delicacies from around Europe, it's all one could ask for for the prefect night in.
There is also a small seated area where you can order a selection of sandwiches and salads.
In our opinion, it's the perfect recipe for the weekend. Buying a selection of their beautiful cheeses and charcuterie, pairing it with a wonderful bottle of wine and ending off with their heavenly looking brownies.
