Partners Dinner

Amsterdam Flavours would not be what or where it is today without the support of our esteemed partners. ArcLinea, Smeg, Wusthof, Le Creuset, Magimix, Baden Baden Interior, Sonos, Leica and Quooker have teamed up with us to create an all-round culinary experience. And it shows at what we have managed to a put together at our new home at the Westergasfabriek.

As a thank you for their ongoing support, we hosted a dinner in their honour last week. A small way we can show our appreciation and how much they mean to us. It was a lovely informal evening with good food, good wine and good conversation. We have decided to make this a yearly event - isn't that what family's do?

A special thank you must go out to Cichi Dining Experience for the beautiful table settings.

Cooking Workshop at Groot Kruivestein

Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to be the first people to make use of the beautiful new kitchen and dining space at Groot Kruivenstein, in Langbroek near Utrecht.

This location is perfect for dining and meetings, set over beautiful lush grounds away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The interior and furnishings have been tastefully planned and thought out, with a unique eye for detail. Jan Steengracht and his wife Maud have created something really special.

Jan, by trade, is a designer working with metal. Pieces of his work complement the spaces, from door handles in the kitchen to lighting. Maud has used her interior design skills to created a homely ambience with beautiful fabrics and pieces of furniture.

We were hosting a cooking workshop and lunch for a group of ladies who had come to celebrate a special birthday. We enjoyed an afternoon cooking delicious food with seasonal ingredients. Dishes included bruschetta with buratta and grilled courgette, bruschetta topped with veal sweetbreads fried in buerre noisette with capers, lemon and parsley. Main was a pan-fried sea bream anchovy dressing and roasted asparagus. Dessert was a rhubarb and strawberry Eton mess and caramelised lemon tart.

Hofstede De Nieuwe Donck

Last Friday, we catered a dinner at Hofstede De Nieuwe Donck. This is a beautiful estate in Langbroek, not far from Utrecht.

It can be used for hosting meetings, workshops and dinners. There is also accommodation for up to 20 people.

We had serious kitchen envy, for the large open, country kitchen. It was a pleasure to cook in and we hope to use it more in the future for cooking workshops and dinners.

We made a delicious 4 course dinner of salmon marinated in ginger and lapsang suchong tea, sole and scallop roulade, venison fillet with parsnip puree and deep fried kale and lastly, poached and caramelised pears with rum and muscavado jelly, milk puree and croissant ice cream.

A little interesting fact: the Christmas Special of Heel Holland Bakt (the Dutch version of The Great British Bake Off) was filmed in this kitchen a few weeks ago and will be broadcast on Saturday 20 December 2014 at 16:50 on NPO 1.

The kitchen all-rounder

All Magimix food processors are manufactured in France and equipped with a powerful, ultra quiet induction motor. Serrated Sabatier stainless steel blades are also made in France and stay sharper for longer.

Just 3 buttons to access all functions. The motor automatically adjusts it's power for each task. A recipe book full of ideas is supplied with each machine. A blade safe storage box provides compact storage for main blades, whisks & discs.

When used with the stainless steel bowl, the dough/pastry blade is perfect for kneading bread or pastry dough in less than 1 minute.

The multipurpose metal master blade is ideal for doing a host of things. From mincing meat, crushing ice, pureeing soups and much more. Made from Sabatier steel, the master blade will help you achieve professional results everytime.

You can also convert your Patissier into a Citrus Press. Just pop the included attachment on the main bowl and you are ready to juice oranges, limes, lemons and any other citrus fruit.

The whisk attachment is perfect for getting fluffy egg whites (up to 12 eggs) for mousse, meringue and macarons. It can also whip cream effortlessly for that professional result.

Magimix innovation now allows you to dice. The first of it's kind on the market, the dicing kit can be used to make cubes out of just about anything from onions to potatoes to carrots and much more. Leave the Magimix off and use it as a kit for French Fries!

Convert your Patissier into a juicer with the Juice Extractor kit. Juice any vegetable for healthy drinks without additives. It is also great for berries and cooked vegetables. The removeable ring allows for easy cleaning.

The Patissier comes with 2 slicing and 2 grating discs. Ideal for slicing and grating any fruit or vegetable with ease.

Quooker Fusion

A true revolution ...

The new kitchen must-have. Quooker: the tap that immediately dispenses boiling water. Tap on the worktop, tank underneath. A 100% Dutch invention taking over the world.

You can choose between a separate boiling water tap with accompanying mixer tap, or the new Quooker Fusion: a single tap for hot, cold and boiling water. Ultra-safe, super-efficient and available in eight tap designs and three finishes.

And if you thought that the Quooker was wasteful, think again: the patented high-vacuum insulation ensures that the Quooker's standby usage is just 4 euro cents a day. For even more efficiency, choose a COMBI tank, a single, amazingly economical way to produce both hot and boiling water.

No kitchen is complete without its Quooker!

Uashmama bags

UASHMAMA washable paper looks and feels like leather but washes with ease. The bags are soft yet resilient, where the manufacturing process is similar to leather, the paper is stretched and tanned making it durable to withstand washing and daily use.

Le Sorelle 'The Sisters' is a small family run company based in Montecatini just outside the walls of Lucca. Once a popular tourist destination, Montecatini has struggled in the last decade being bypassed for more promoted areas. The village now thrives again with the growth of UASHMAMA, who employ a large group of local men and women to sew from home the paper bag you buy today.

The paper bags and other products are all sewn in a cottage in Tuscany, so they are proud to call themselves a cottage industry. The more sophisticated designs and products are produced in Florence by manufacturers who also produce for the fashion elite.

The project UASHMAMA combines functionality, tradition and innovation. Paper, leather and fabric are all part of this project.

UASHMAMA washable paper is made using a virgin fibre through cultivation and not deforestation. Paper that washes like fabric holding it’s form so it can be used over and over again promoting sustainability perfect for catering and homewares.

UASHMAMA bags are available at Moes & Griet.
