Summer Drinks

With the weather heating up, we're getting more interested in light and refreshing drinks.

What we like is to start with a cordial or syrup. This is an intense flavoured base from which to begin building your drinks. Think different seasonal fruits that bring colour and flavour; rhubarb, lemons and plums for example.

Once you have a cordial base, this should keep well in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Now get creative. Mix the cordial with water (still or sparkling), ice cubes and then an array of fruit  and herbs to garnish. Think of a garnish the complements the main ingredient. Let your imagination run wild.

Zuider Market

This past Saturday was the most gorgeous Fall morning. Crystal clear skies and a distinct chill in the air. We had a busy day ahead preparing for a catering but we couldn't resist taking a little detour on our way to work and popping by the Zuider Market.

Held every Saturday on the Jacob Obrechtstraat behind the Concertgebouw (Concert Hall) in Amsterdam South, this small market is bustling with locals and visitors alike. Besides offering a fantastic array of vegetables, meats, and ready prepared items like crepes and pies, there is a wonderful vibe around the area.

This certainly should be on your list to visit. It's the ideal place to buy local, seasonal produce and a great meeting place to catch up with friends over a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.

Noordermarkt

The Noordermarkt situated in the Jordaan district is a must-see if you have a free Saturday morning. Buzzing with tourists and locals alike, the range and quality of produce on offer is some of the best you will find in Amsterdam. You'll find bread, bundles of fresh herbs, fruit, seafood, cheese and mushrooms. Most of the produce is organic and a trip to the market is highly recommended. The market starts at around 9:30 and ends around 16:00. It's advisable to get there early as it fills up quickly.
