The company was established in 1925 with the name of its founder, Silvio Fortuna Senior, who took up the artisanal carpentry business begun back in 1816. In 1960, Arclinea moved towards the production of kitchen furniture collections. In 1963 Arclinea presented Claudia, the first kitchen with built-in electrical appliances and stainless steel hob. Gamma30 in 1970 marked a shift towards a new way of interpreting the kitchen, from a production-dimension and functional-living point of view.
In the early eighties the desire was felt to collaborate with designers outside the company. The relationship with Antonio Citterio strengthened, and towards the end of the nineties, he became the company’s main designer. With ‘Italia’ in 1988, it succeeded in bringing professional kitchens into people’s homes. This resulted in the creation of innovative products based on the need to solve every single technical problem in the most formal and functional way possible, to give a kitchen that was increasingly more creative, customised and liveable. Starting with absolute knowledge of the materials, processes, technologies and proceeding in a logic of ‘total quality’, the relationship between Arclinea and Antonio Citterio gave rise to a truly special, unique way of imagining, designing and producing kitchens. And for this reason Arclinea has chosen to keep its production strictly in Italy, without delocalizing any of its Collection. Arclinea is now a prestigious international brand, the perfect ambassador of Made in Italy around the world, which deals with both retail and contract sales through the following divisions: residential, hospitality, and marine.
Over the course of recent decades, Arclinea has brought about a clear-cut change in kitchen behaviour and habits. For Arclinea, design is not only expressed through form and functions, but is also capable of turning spaces into a place of experience, creativity, pleasure, and passion.
On the strength of its continuous research and analysis both of people’s behaviour and, more generally, their approach to food, from its preparation to its consumption, Arclinea has succeeded in establishing itself as a leading player in the design of professional solutions for cooking schools and restaurants: in precisely the area it had studied over twenty years ago, implementing the design solutions that would enable it to bring the restaurant kitchen, with all its features, materials, and logical functionality, into people’s homes. Cutting-edge design that allows Arclinea to collaborate with important cookery schools around the world and which in 2010 led to the birth of the ‘Arclinea Design Cooking School’, the cookery school network that adopts Arclinea design.

Today, our forged knives bearing the famous Trident (“Dreizack”) logo are manufactured at 3 production plants in Solingen, which has become known as the “City of Blades”.
The name Wüsthof first appeared as a factory in the records of the Duchy of Berg in 1814. It was in that year that the family’s ancestor, Abraham Wüsthof, founded his “factory for fine steel wares”, which is now known as the Dreizackwerk. The business has remained in the family ever since. Today, Harald Wüsthof and Viola Wüsthof is the seventh generation of the family to manage ED.WÜSTHOF DREIZACKWERK KG.
