Wijnkoperij De Gouden Ton (Wine shop)

In November, it will be 22 years since Fonger Kranenburg opened his beautiful shop on the Willemsparkweg 158. Being a former butchery, the shop retains many original features, such as hooks in the ceiling and the characteristic office. The cellar has also been incorporated into the shop; designed as a tasting room housing a superb selection of fine wines. In April 2013, De Gouden Ton opened a beautiful wine shop in the Oude Dorp (Old Town) of Amstelveen.

Wijnkoperij De Gouden Ton prides itself on the wide selection of wines across all price ranges. Quality is the most the most important factor. Wines range from classic, well known labels, to tiny local discoveries. One of the most important conditions is that wines are produced with respect for nature. Magnificent Riedel crystal glasses and carafes complete the selection on offer. In the Amsterdam store, one will also find a specialized distilled range, including whiskeys, rums and gin.

Furthermore, their professional staff are always available to help customers with advice on the prefect wine choice.

Special events are regularly organised in both stores. For example, 'open bottle evenings', tastings and wine makers dinners. Visit the website of Wijnkoperij De Gouden Ton and the Facebook page to keep up-to-date.

Toms

'One for One'

In 2008, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One.

The company has since expanded into eyeware and coffee. With every pair purchased, Toms will help give sight to a person in need.  With every pack of coffee purchased, TOMS will give one week of clean water to a person in need.

The company recently opened a store in Amsterdam. We're all about giving back and helping those in need. Go in an show your support. Not only will you be treating yourself, but you'll be helping someone in the process, One for One.

Opening Le Creuset

On Tuesday 16th September, we catered the official opening of our partner, Le Creuset's, first branded store in Holland. Press and food bloggers were invited to attend, along with guest of honor, Alain Caron, who also unveiled a new range of pots that will be available from November.

In honour of Le Creuset's French heritage, we decided to serve food with a French flavour. To start, we served Gougeres and toasts with wild mushrooms and Reblochon cheese. For mains we made Boeuf Bourguignon in small Le Creuset pots and to finish, a classic tarte au citron.

You can find the store on the Heiligeweg in Amsterdam.

For more information, please visit Le Creuset.

Bakery Paul Annee

Bakery Paul Annee bakes traditional wholemeal bread in the Artisan way.

The grain used in the flour has been grown without fertilizers and chemicals.

At the mill, the grain is ground slowly between the millstones into flour. As a result, the flour retains the essential nutrients.

The bread is created from a sourdough base and expertly baked by master bakers. They also supply health food shops, hotels and caterers with their bread.

In the shop you'll also find muesli, teas, juices and organic honey.

Marqt

Marqt opened the doors of it's first store in Amsterdam in 2008. Since then, it has opened a further 5 stores in the city and even expanded into other major Dutch cities.

Marqt lives by a few principles which we also strongly believe in. They are:
- respect for nature, animals and people
- a preference for local cultivation and origin
- produced with passion and responsibility
- a fair price for producers that encourages stable production
- food that remains close to its source, thus no additional additives or unnecessary processes

The stores encourage consumers to be more aware of what they purchase and what they eat. A big part of the produce is organic and walking through the stores, where everything is so neatly displayed, one cannot help being drawn into a world of food.
